Abstract
With films like <Mala Noche>, <My Private Idaho>, <Good Will Hunting>, and <Finding Forrester>, writer & director Gus Van Sant has explored what it is to be young and searching for an identity. A director who is capable of crafting both deeply unconventional independent films and mainstream crowd-pleasers, Gus Van Sant has managed to carve an enviable niche for himself in Hollywood. In <Requiem Trilogy-Gerry, Elephant, Last Days>, he tries to explore new formal style and deep thematic matters for his unique cinematic world using low budget production system and experimental elements such as anti-jump cut and creative sound. Building its own brand of absurd American realism, <Requiem Trilogy> shares with his other films a restless creativity that constantly expresses itself in new and surprising ways.
