농촌지역 지적장애여성의 자녀양육에 관한 질적 사례연구

이 연구는 농촌지역 지적장애여성의 자녀양육 경험을 탐색하고자 질적 사례연구방법을 활용하여 그들의 경험을 다각도에서 이해해보고자 한 것이다. 이를 위해 지적장애여성 당사자, 가족(시어머니, 남편, 자녀 등) 및 현장전문가(사회복지전문요원 및 기관실무자 등)를 인터뷰하였다. 연구결과, 농촌지역에 사는 지적장애여성들은 준비없이 얼떨결에 엄마라는 역할을 시작하지만, 아이를 생각하면 가슴이 저려오는 애틋함을 보여주었다. 지적장애여성은 가족 안에서 엄마의 역할을 하지 못하고 인정받지 못하는 무늬만 엄마인 모습, 아이들에게 부끄러운 존재인 것 같은 마음으로 어디에도 기댈 곳 없는 서글픔과 스스로를 한스러워하는 모습이 나타났다. 특히, 농촌공동체 안에서 지적장애여성은 동네일꾼이면서 지적장애라는 굴레가 자녀에게 부여되는 아픔을 가지고, 가난과 장애라는 반복되는 악순환 속에서 힘겹게 살아가고 있었다. 이러한 어려움에도 불구하고, 지적장애여성은 자녀가 잘 되었으면 하고 바라는 엄마로서의 강한 의지를 보여주었다. 이러한 결과를 기초로, 본 연구는 농촌지역 지적장애여성의 자녀양육과 관련된 사회복지적 함의를 제시하고 있다.
Abstract
This study aims to understand the child-rearing experiences of women with intellectual disabilities in a rural community. Using a qualitative case study method, data was collected and analysed; the participants were selected from the recommendations of social workers working at public agency, and interviewed using individual interview methods. In detail, there are diverse groups who were interviewed; women with intellectual disabilities, their families (husband, child, mother-in-law), and social workers. According to the results, the following main themes were extracted from the experiences of child-rearing women with intellectual disabilities who live in a rural community: 'roles as mothers started without preparations', 'a mother who does not have any decision-making power for her children', 'ashamed for their children', and 'labor shared by residents in a rural community'. The hard lives of women with intellectual disabilities repeats itself through poverty and discrimination toward people with disabilities in a small and rural community. The implication of these study results are for policy making, and the actual practices were discussed focusing on rights and well-being.
