본 논문은 문명화된 현대 사회 안에서 ‘자연으로의 회귀’를 외친 동서양의 두 사상가 장자와 루소에 대한 고찰을 시도한다. 그러나 장자와 루소가 자연을 강조하고 자연으로 돌아갈 것을 주장하고는 있지만 그 근본적인 의미는 인간 그 자신의 소외로부터의 해방을 의도한 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또한 양자 모두는 자연스럽고 소박한 인간의 본성에 대한 믿음을 가지고 있었던 것을 미루어 알 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 장자와 루소에 있어서 자연으로의 회귀는 그 두 사람이 살았던 시간과 공간의 상이함 때문에 차별성이 있다. 이런 전제를 바탕으로 본 논문에서는 첫째 장자와 루소의 사상을 살펴보면서 특히 그 두 사람이 말하는 문명사회 안에서의 고통스러운 인간의 모습이 무엇이었는가에 대해 논의한다. 둘째, 장자와 루소가 제시하는 자연 속에서 행복했던 인간의 상태가 어떤 모습을 띄고 있었는가에 대해 탐색해본다. 셋째, 이러한 변화의 원인이 인간의 인위에 의한 것이라는 점을 지적하고 양자가 말하는 인위의 내용을 고찰해 보기로 한다. 마지막으로는 위에 논한 문제점들을 전제로 장자와 루소의 견해에 대한 분석과 비교를 시도한다.
Abstract
This essay is a trial of the comparison between Chuang-tzu and Rousseau who chant a 'return to nature' in East and West thoughts. However, although Chunang-tzu and Rousseau emphasize the importance of nature and returning to nature, it is seen that their intentension is to liberate man from the alienation of man himself. Also, it can be assumed that both of them have the belief on the simplicity of human nature. Nevertheless, there is the distinction in their claim of the return to nature owing to their temporal - spatial differences between the two thinkers. Based on this premise first, it will be explored what is the painful appearance of human beings in the cultural society through examining their thoughts. Secondly, it will be investigated what was looked like the appearance of human beings when they were happy in nature. Thirdly, it will be pointed out that this kind of change is caused from the artificiality of human beings, and examined what the artificiality is. Finally, it will be tried to compare the issues discussed previously between the thoughts of Chunag-tzu and Rousseau.
