가정폭력 피해가정의 부모-자녀 관계에 관한 질적 연구: 쉼터거주 피해여성의 경험을 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 폭력을 경험하는 가족 내 부모-자녀 관계를 이해하기 위한 초석을 마련하는데 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 가정폭력 피해여성의 목소리를 통해 가정폭력의 발생 안에서 부와 모, 자녀로 연결되는 입체적인 관계를 분석해보았다. 본 연구의 대상은 쉼터에 거주 중인 유자녀 피해여성이다. 연구대상자 접근의 현실적 한계를 고려하여 본 연구에서는 의도적 표집(purposive sampling) 방법을 이용하여 A지역의 가정폭력 보호시설을 중심으로 대상자를 모집하였다. 연구참여자는 심층면접 당시 쉼터에 입소 중으로 안전한 환경에서 생활 중이며 피해여성에 대한 폭력이 중단됨을 전제로 하였다. 질적분석을 위해 15인의 쉼터 거주 여성과 면접을 진행하였으며, 가정폭력 내 부모-자녀의 관계에 대해 일관된 진술이 도출되지 않는 현실을 고려하여 질적분석이 시도되었다. 본 연구에서는 다음의 결과들이 제시되었다. 모를 향한 부의 폭력이 발생하는 가정에서 자녀들은 이에 노출되었고, 많은 경우에 아동학대 또한 함께 발생하고 있었다. 자녀들은 모를 학대하는 과정에 개입되기도 하였으며, 이러한 경험들을 통해 건강한 성장발달에 어려움을 가지거나 폭력을 학습하기도 하였다. 또한, 자녀들이 가정폭력에 대응하는 방식은 각각의 가족의 역사에 따라 달랐는데, 자녀들은 모의 탈폭력을 지지하거나 반대로 탈폭력의 지연과 그 시기에 대해 모를 비난하는 모습이었다. 자녀들은 폭력을 외면, 회피하거나 일상으로 받아들임으로써 자신만의 생존전략을 수립하기도 하였는데 이러한 과정은 자녀 개개인에 따라 다른 양상으로 전개되었다. 가정폭력은 가해남성과 피해여성이 부모로서 건강한 양육태도를 가지고 자녀들과 관계를 형성하는데 다각도로 영향을 주었으며, 이들의 관계는 긍・부정의 이분법적 사고로는 설명되지 않는 다면적이고 가변적인 형태였다. 탈폭력의 과정에서 피해여성들은 쉼터 입소와 이혼소송, 자녀 동반입소의 어려움, 자녀들의 상처와 회복, 자녀들과의 미래에 대한 희망과 불안 등을 보고하였다
Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to explore parent-child relationships among families in the context of domestic violence. For this purpose, in depth interviews were conducted with 15 women staying at the domestic violence shelter, and the qualitative method was used to analyze. The results indicated that all children of participants were exposed to domestic violence, and some of them were also involved in the process of abusing their mothers or directly abused by perpetrators. They showed difficulty in healthy growth or learned violence from an abusive father. They were either supportive of mother’s divorce suit or blamed their mother for the delay and timing of leaving the abuser. They set up their own survival strategies in different ways by turning away, avoiding, or accepting violence as a ordinary life. Domestic violence affected parenting attitudes in various ways to build a healthy relationship with children, and this process was multifaceted and changing, not explained by dichotomous way of thinking. Further implications were discussed.
