가정폭력 피해자보호시설(쉼터)은 입소자의 피해 회복과 자립에 중요한 역할을 하고 있는데 쉼터에서의 생활경험에 관한 연구는 부족한 것이 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 쉼터 입⋅퇴소자 10인과의 심층면접을 통해 가정폭력피해자 쉼터의 환경과 그 안에서의 생활경험, 인적 구성원들과의 관계 및 갈등을 분석하였다. 질적연구의 주제분석 방법을 활용한 분석결과에 따르면, 피해여성과 동반자녀들은 쉼터에서 안전을 확보하고 각자의 방식으로 적응하고 있었다. 사적공간 확보가 어려운 쉼터의 물리적 환경과 비공개 시설에서의 공동생활규칙은 피해여성의 일상을 제약하는 동시에 안전을 제공하였다. 동료 입소자, 종사자(활동가)와의 관계는 협력적이지만 공동생활에서의 갈등은 불가피했으며, 피해여성과 동반자녀 또한 안전하고 지지적인 쉼터에서 관계를 재구성하였다. 이를 바탕으로 쉼터생활 개선을 위해 쉼터의 물리적 환경 개선, 생계비 지원 확대 및 취사원 지원, 동반자녀의 학습 및 생활환경 개선, 가해자 퇴거조치의 가능성 등을 논의하였다.
Abstract
A shelter for survivors of domestic violence plays a vital role in supporting them to reclaim independent living. The purpose of this study was to better understand the environment of the shelter for domestic violence survivors, life experiences therein, and relationships and conflicts with human members. Total 10 women in domestic violence shelters participated in the study, and a thematic analysis method was employed for analyses. The finding showed that a shelter provided safety to women and their accompanying children, but a lack of personal spaces and strict shelter rules gave them a hard time simultaneously. They had supports and conflicts at the same time among women and their children, colleagues, and social workers each others. Based on the findings, the researcher further discussed the improvement of shelter environment, an increase of public supports, the realistic possibility of perpetrators’ eviction from own homes, and so on.
