인지과학(Cognitive Science)으로 대변되는 경험적 탐구는 기존의 인간 이해를 전면적으로 수정해야 한다는 것을 가르쳐주었다. 신체화(embodiment)는 이러한 현상을 대변하는 표제어다. 이런 관점에서 이루어지는 새로운 유학적 탐구, 즉 ‘신체화된 유학적 탐구’를 상상할 수 있다. 이 분야는 인지과학과 유학이라는 두 개의 이질적인 담론 체계의 혼성이라는 점에서 인지유학(Coginitive Confucianism, 認知儒學)이라고 이름붙일 수 있다. 이에 기초해서 우리는 크게 세 가지 방향의 유학적 탐구를 상상할 수 있다. 첫째 신체화 가설을 수용해서 기존의 유학 이론을 해석하고 비판적으로 재구성할 수 있다. 둘째 신체화된 인지의 일반성을 바탕으로 유학과 인접 학문과의 비교 철학적 연구를 수행할 수 있다. 셋째 신체화 가설의 철학적 함축을 유가적 차원에서 발전시킨 새로운 담론을 창출할 수 있다. 결론적으로 인지유학은 오늘의 시점에서도 가능한 미래의 유학적 탐구 양식 가운데 하나다. 불확실한 미래상에도 불구하고 결정적인 사실은 이것이다. 유학의 인지적 전환(coginitive turn)이라고 말할 수 있는 현상은 이미 우리 곁에 도착했다.
Abstract
The empirical exploration represented by Cognitive Science has taught me that you need to modify an existing human understanding fully. Embodiment is a title word to represent this phenomenon. The new Confucian exploration From this perspective, namely We can imagine the "embodied Confucian exploration“. This field is based on the two mixed systems of cognitive science and Confucianism. We can call this a Cognitive Confucianism(認知儒學). Based on this, We can largely predict the Confucian exploration of three directions. First, We interpret the existing confucian theory by accepting the embodiment hypothesis and critically reconstruct. Second, we perform a comparative philosophical study with Confucian and adjacent disciplines based on the generality of embodied cognitive. Third, We create a new discourse that develops the philosophical implications of the embodiment hypothesis in Confucianism dimension. In conclusion, Cognitive Confucianism is one of the future Confucian exploration forms available today. Cognitive turn of Confucianism has already begun.
