초록

본 연구는 무도철학과 인지과학의 학제적 연구이다. 기존의 무도철학은 심신일여, 인격완성, 깨달음의 본질을 다양한 동서양의 사상적, 철학적 관점에서 설명해왔다. 이러한 내용의 많은 부분은 목적론적이고 당위론적으로 접근하였다. 이로 인해 무도철학은 실천적 방법과 그에 따른 과학적 타당성을 보여주지 못했다. 여기에 덧붙여 오늘날 과학적 사고중심의 학문적 분위기는 무도철학의 관심을 상대적으로 멀어지게 하였다. 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위한 하나의 방법으로 무도철학도 과학적 성과물을 반영해야 한다. 학제적 연구의 하나인 인지과학을 무도철학에 적용할 필요가 있다는 것이다. 인지과학은 인간의 앎에 대한 학제적 연구이며, 이는 과학적 연구의 성과에 따라 다양한 관점으로 설명된다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 인지과학의 하나의 이론인 몸에 배인 인지(embodied cognition)의 관점에서 무도철학의 내용인 심신일여와 인격완성의 의미를 설명하였다. 심신일여와 인격완성의 실천적 방법은 의식의 작동과정과 그 작동 근거인 몸의 움직임에 대한 해명을 전제로 해야 한다면, 몸에 배인 인지는 그러한 작동과정과 근거를 잘 설명할 수 있는 이론적 방법이기 때문이다. 이를 통해 심신일여와 인격완성의 실천적 방법에 대한 과학적 타당성을 확보할 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

This paper is a interdisciplinary study between martial arts and cognitive science. The study of previous martial arts explicates the discourse of Enlightenment through 心身一如(the mind and body is as the same) and 人格完成(the completion of personal character) as Eastern and Western philosophical approaches. And lots of them have explained as teleological and normative approaches. But they do not reach the scientific justification on practical methodology of martial arts. To overcome this limit, we need to accept the one of scientific results, cognitive science. The cognitive science is a interdisciplinary study of relating the human’s knowledge. On base of embodied cognition, one of advanced cognitive science, I instantiate about the meanings of 心身一如(the mind and body is as the same) and 人格完成(the completion of personal character). If their practical methods need to be explained as the operative processes of consciousness and bodily movement, embodied cognition would be a good theoretical method to support for them. Through which the practical methods of 心身一如 and 人格完成 have opportunities to get scientific justification.
