청각장애를 가진 청년들의 사회적 관계 맺음에 대한 포토보이스 연구

본 연구는 포토보이스 연구방법을 적용하여 청각장애 청년의 사회적 관계 맺음 경험을 당사자의 관점에서 이해하였다. 청각장애 청년 8명을 대상으로 집단 토의와 개별 면담이 포함된 포토보이스가 9회기에 걸쳐 실시되었다. 연구 참여자들은 “관계 맺음 내(內) 내가 본 나의 모습”, “이중사회 관계 맺음을 통한 배움과 변화된 나의 모습”, “관계 맺음을 어렵게 하는 요인”, “비대면 시대 경험되는 사회적⋅정서적 거리감”, “관계 맺음의 추구와 이상적 관계상”에 대한 5개의 대주제를 선정하였고, 이와 관련한 사진 촬영을 통해 자신의 경험을 공유하였다. 연구 결과 도출된 총 16개의 하위주제를 통해 청각장애 청년들이 농인사회와 청인사회에서 경험하는 사회적 관계 내 어려움과 기대를 당사자의 관점에서 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 청각장애 청년들이 맺는 사회적 관계의 질을 도모하여 개인의 긍정적인 정체성 형성과 정서적 안정을 이룰 수 있는 실천적 방안을 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aimed to understand the social relationship experience of young adults with hearing disability from their perspective using the photovoice method. Nine sessions of photovoice consisting of group discussions and in-depth interviews were conducted with eight young adults with hearing disability. Participants shared their experiences through their photos taken related to five themes: “myself in relationship,” “what I learned and changed myself in the deaf bilingual-bicultural community,” “obstacles that make relationships difficult,” “social and emotional distancing experienced in the age of non-contact,” and “ideal relationships they pursue.” The findings based on 16 subthemes showed difficulties and expectations in social relations experienced in the deaf and hearing community by young people with hearing difficulties from their perspective. This study provides practical implications to achieve positive individual identity and emotional well-being by promoting the quality of social relationships among young adults with hearing disability.
