예(禮)의 관점에서 본 다산(茶山) 『주역(周易)』 해석의 특징

다산(茶山) 정약용(丁若鏞)의 『주역(周易)』 해석의 특징 가운에 하나는 예(禮)를 통해 『주역』을 해석한다는 점이다. 다산의 경우처럼 『주례』 및 고대 주대(周代)의 예제를 통해 본격적으로 『주역』을 해석하기 시작한 시초는 거슬러 올라가 정현의 『주역』 해석에서 발견된다. 이처럼 예를 통해 『주역』을 해석한다는 점에서 정현과 다산은 공통점을 가지고 있는 것으로 보인다. 하지만 한편으로 다산은 일부 정현의 견해, 예컨대 역(易)의 의미에 대한 정현의 해석과 정현의 『주례』 해석 등에 관해 비판적인 시각을 제시했다. 특히 다산은 정현이 제시한 역(易)의 세 가지 의미인 이간(易簡), 변역(變易), 불역(不易) 가운데 변역만을 인정했고 나머지 이간과 불역은 잘못된 학설로 평가했다. 본 논문은 다산이 『주역』을 해석하는 데 있어서 주목했던 예에 대한 사유를 정현의 『주역』 해석과의 비교, 다산이 파악한 『주역』의 변화의 원리와 예(禮)의 원리와의 연관성, 다산이 이해한 『주역』의 현실적 적용을 위한 문헌적 특성과 예의 실천성을 위한 모색 등을 통해 살펴보고자 한다.
Abstract
One of the characteristics of Dasan 茶山 Jeong Yak-yong 丁若鏞’s interpretation of the Zhou Yi 周易 is that he interprets the Zhou Yi through li 禮. As in the case of Dasan, it is found interpretation of the Zhou Yi through li, dating back to the beginning when Zheng Xuan 鄭玄 began to interpret it in earnest through li including rituals of ancient Zhou 周 Dynasty and the Zhou Li 周禮. In this regard, Zheng Xuan and Dasan seem to have something in common in that they interpret the Zhou Yi through li. On the other hand, Dasan offered critical views on some Zheng Xuan’s views. In particural, Dasan acknowledged only changes (bianyi, 變易) among three meanings of Yi 易 offered by Zheng Xuan: “easy and simple (yijian, 易簡),” “changes,” and “unchanging (buyi, 不易),” while evaluating the reminder as “wrong theories.” This paper examines Dasan’s thoughts of li shown in his interpretation of the Zhou Yi by comparing them with Zheng Xuan’s views on it, exploring the interrelationship between the principle of changes on the Zhou Yi and li, analyzing the literary characteristics of the Zhou Yi to apply for reality, and understanding his efforts to practice li in the real world.
