Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine predictor variables influencing teachers’ levels of digital citizenship. The concept of digital citizenship is defined by five sub factors: Technical Skills, Local/Global Awareness, Communication & Collaboration, Critical Perspective, and Internet Political Activism. The predictor variables were constructed by personal, citizenship education, Internet use, and psychological variables. The Korean digital citizenship scale developed by Choi & Park (2015) was used to collect data from teachers who participated in teachers’ professional development. Descriptive analysis, ANOVA, correlation analysis, T-test, and hierarchical regression were performed to analyze data. Joining the teachers’ union among personal variables, enrolling citizenship related classes and completing the lesson plans on citizenship among citizenship education variables, Internet use variables, and Internet self-efficacy among psychological variables were found as the significant predictor variables influencing teachers’ levels of digital citizenship. This study will contribute to designing the directions and contents of digital citizenship education including citizenship education in preservice teacher education programs.
