Abstract
SPAS is Social Physique Anxiety Scale. Although the SPAS has to have a requirement of the unidimensionality, it has not been verified yet in sport science study in Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze the validity of the SPAS using Item Response Theory. This study is performed by the application of rating scale model which is based on the Rasch model in the Item Response Theory. To achieve the purpose this study, the validity of the SPAS items are analysed based on the framework of the content, substantive, structural, generalizability, external, and consequential aspects of validity as described by Messick(1995). As a result, Item 3 and Item 8 had the mean squares unfit indices, and the point-measure correlation was also not suitable in the content aspect of validity. The substantive aspect of validity indicated Item 1, Item 3, Item 5, and Item 8 were not suitable. The structural aspect of validity also verified unfit of unidimensionality in SPAS. This study result suggests that the SPAS needs the unidimensionality for validity.
