사회과 수업에서 동물복지 학습을 통한 민주시민성 함양에 관한 연구

동물학습을 활용한 수업은 학습자가 생활에서 직면하는 동물학대의 문제를 해결하는 과정에서 반성적 사고의 고양과 동물복지의 자세를 갖게 되며, 이를 토대로 생명존중, 타인의 배려, 관용, 책임감, 인권 의식 등을 함양할 수 있다는 점에서 민주시민성 함양을 목표로 하는 사회과 수업에서 적용 방안에 대한 모색이 필요하다. 동물학습을 구체적으로 사회과 수업에 활용하기 위해서는 동물학대에 대한 내용 숙지가 필요하며, 동물학대의 문제와 함께 동물복지에 대한 수업으로 민주시민성 함양을 도모할 실천적 노력이 필요하다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 구체적인 동물복지 학습이 이루어지도록 수업 활용 사례와 유의점을 검토해 보았다. 사회과 수업에서 동물학습의 적용 방안 연구도 결국은 사회과 교육의 존재 이유이자 궁극적 목적인 민주시민성 함양에 기여하기 위한 것이다. 사회과 교육에서 달성해야할 민주시민성 함양의 목표를 위해 동물복지를 다루는 내용 구성과 그것을 가르치는 방법을 구조적으로 관련짓는 논의 및 실천이 사회과 수업 현장에서 활성화되기를 기대해 본다.
Abstract
Cruelty to animal has caused a risk that you can go to the disregard for human life. Although the interest in animal welfare is raised, students have not learned animal welfare in school civic education in Korea. This study proposed the application of the social studies class to cultivate respect for life, caring of others, empathy, etc. through the learning of animal welfare. The subject of animal welfare learning can increase the learner's motivation because it is always in contact with animals from the day-to-day, the learner has to get an attitude of animal welfare and reflective thinking in the process of solving the problem of animal abuse faced in life . Respect for life through the study of animal welfare can be uplifting to the human dignity and human rights, students can cultivate the attitude of respect and consideration for others' positions, and empathy for the pain. It is necessary that we have to apply the animal welfare learning which is good for cultivation of respect for life, humane rights, tolerance, accountability to the social studies education whose aim is to foster democratic citizenship.
