초록

본 연구는 근접맥락(가정, 학교, 지역사회)에서의 사회적 관계(부모-자녀관계, 교우관계, 학생-교사관계, 지역사회구성원과의 관계)가 남녀청소년의 공동체의식 발달에 어떤 영향을 미치는지, 즉 성별에 따른 차별적 효과의 존재여부를 분석하였다. 성별은 미시적 차원에서 사회화의 결과에 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라 거시적 차원에서 사회화 과정 전반에도 영향을 미친다. 특히 남녀불평등이 존재하는 사회에서, 성차별적 사회 분위기, 인식, 문화는 근접맥락에서 청소년들이 경험하는 상호작용에 영향을 미침으로써 그들에 대한 성편향적 사회화에 기여할 것이다. 이러한 인식을 바탕으로, 본 연구는 여성청소년과 남성청소년이 근접맥락에서 경험하는 사회적 관계에 차이가 있으며 이러한 사회적 관계가 공동체의식 발달에 미치는 효과 역시 성별에 따라 차이가 있을 것으로 예상하였다. 이를 확인하기 위하여 한국청소년정책연구원이 한국아동·청소년패널조사에서 중학교 1학년을 대상으로 2010년부터 2012년까지 3차시에 걸쳐 수집한 자료를 분석하였다. 다집단성장곡선모형을 실시한 결과, 부모-자녀관계 중 부모의 정서적 지지는 두 집단 모두에서 유의하지 않은 변수인데 반해, 부모의 합리적 설명은 양 집단에서 공동체의식의 초기값과 정(+)의 관계에 있었다. 교우관계, 학생-교사관계, 지역사회구성원과의 관계는 연구대상의 성별과 상관없이 전 차시에 걸쳐 공동체의식에 긍정적 효과가 있었지만, 그 효과의 종단적 변화 및 효과의 크기에서 남녀집단 간 차이가 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 근접맥락에서의 사회적 관계가 성편향적 사회화, 나아가 불평등한 성차별적 사회구조의 재생산에 기여할 가능성을 시사한다. 이를 극복하기 위해서, 근접맥락에서의 사회적 관계가 성이라는 거시적, 사회적 개념을 통해 어떻게 자신의 삶에 영향을 미치는지 청소년들로 하여금 비판적으로 고찰할 수 있는 기회가 제공되어야 한다.

Abstract

This study examined gender difference in the effects of social relationships in proximal contexts (parents’ affective support and parents’ instruction with reasonable explanation at home, classmate relationship and student-teacher relationship at school, and relationship with others in the local community) on adolescents’ sense of community. To this end, this study drew on data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey which were collected between 2010 and 2012 from the 7th grader panel. Multigroup growth curve modeling revealed that parents’ instruction with reasonable explanation had a positive impact on a sense of community for both female and male adolescents at the initial status (wave 1), while parents’ affective support did not have any significant effect. Classmate relationship, student-teacher relationship, and relationship with others in the local community were all positively associated with a sense of community at all waves regardless of adolescents’ gender. However, there were gender differences in the longitudinal trends of the effects of these school and community predictors. This finding implies that in order to ameliorate gender inequality, civic education should provide adolescents with opportunities to consider and discuss how social perceptions and culture on gender influences them in daily life.
