초록

본 연구는 청소년들이 근접맥락에서 경험하는 사회적 관계(부모와의 관계, 또래관계, 교사와의 관계, 지역사회구성원과의 관계)가 그들의 공동체의식과 다문화수용성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대하여 분석하였다. 민주사회의 다양성이 생산적 갈등 및 합의로 이어지기 위해서는 구성원들의 공동체의식이 필수적이다. 그런데 공동체의식이 특정 집단의 구성원을 넘어 보편적 사회구성원을 포괄하기 위해서는 나와 다른 사람, 특히 다문화사회로 급속하게 진입한 한국 사회에서 문화적 배경이 다른 사람을 우리공동체의 일원으로 받아들이는 다문화수용성이 전제되어야 한다. 기존 논의들을 토대로 본 연구는 근접맥락에서의 사회적 관계가 청소년들의 공동체의식 및 다문화수용성에 영향을 미치고, 다문화수용성은 공동체의식의 독립변수로 기능할 뿐 아니라 사회적 관계와 공동체의식을 매개하는 변수로도 기능할 것으로 예상하였다. 이를 확인하기 위하여 한국청소년정책연구원의 한국 아동·청소년 패널조사(Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey: KCYPS)의 중학교 1학년 패널 6차년도 자료를 분석하였다. 경로분석을 실시한 결과, 부모와의 관계, 또래와의 관계, 교사와의 관계는 공동체의식과 다문화수용성 모두와 긍정적 관련성이 있었다. 이웃과의 관계는 공동체의식과는 정(+)의 관계에 있었으나 다문화수용성과는 유의한 관련성이 발견되지 않았다. 다문화수용성은 공동체의식과 긍정적 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 다문화수용성의 매개효과는 부모와의 관계, 또래와의 관계, 교사와의 관계에서 통계적으로 유의하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 근접맥락에서의 긍정적인 사회적 관계가 청소년의 공동체의식 및 다문화수용성을 높임으로써 우리 사회의 건전한 통합과 발전에 기여할 가능성을 시사한다. 따라서 청소년기에 긍정적인 사회적 관계를 경험하고 무엇보다도 다름에 대한 생산적 성찰을 할 수 있는 기회가 제공되어야 한다.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of social relationships in proximal contexts (relationship with parents, relationship with peers, relationship with teachers, and relationship with neighbors) on a sense of community and multicultural acceptance and the mediating effect of multicultural acceptance in the relationship between the social relationships and a sense of community among adolescents. To this end, path analysis was performed using data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS). Findings show that relationships with parents, peers, and teachers were positively related to adolescents’ sense of community and multicultural acceptance while the relationship with neighbors was positively associated only with their sense of community. The mediating effect of multicultural acceptance was found in the relationship between relationships with parents, peers, and teachers and adolescents’ sense of community. The result of this study suggests the necessity of educational efforts to provide adolescents with social relationship experience which promotes their sense of community and multicultural acceptance.
