사회과에서의 수업사려도가 중학생의 비판적 사고 성향에 미치는 영향

초록

본 연구는 ‘사고를 촉진하는 수업 풍토(수업사려도)은 학생들의 비판적 사고 성향에 영향을 미칠 수 있는가’라는 연구 문제를 해결하기 위해 수행되었다. 뉴만(Newmann, 1991b)의 수업사려도 관련 논의를 토대로, 본 연구는 사회과 수업에서의 수업사려도가 비판적 사고 성향 및 비판적 사고 성향의 각 하위 요인에 미치는 영향을 다중회귀분석을 통해 확인하였다. 중학교 『사회1』 과목을 이수한 중학교 2학년 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 238명의 유효한 응답을 확보하였다. 분석 결과, 학생이 인식한 수업사려도 수준이 높을수록 학생의 비판적 사고 성향 점수가 높게 나타났다. 그리고 비판적 사고 성향의 하위 요인들에 대한 수업사려도의 영향을 분석한 결과, 각 하위 요인(지적통합, 창의성, 도전성, 개방성, 신중성, 객관성, 진실추구, 탐구성)에 대하여 수업사려도와 유의한 관계가 확인되었다. 또한 수업사려도 하위 요인(일반적인 차원, 교사 행동 차원, 학생 행동 차원)이 각각 비판적 사고 성향과 유의한 관계를 나타냈다. 본 연구는 분석 결과를 바탕으로 고차적 사고력을 육성하는 수업을 실행하기 위해서 수업사려도에 포함된 수업 환경의 여러 특징들(교사가 사고의 모범을 보일 것, 도전적인 과제를 구성하고 제시할 것, 수업에서 학생들은 생각의 이유를 제시할 것 등)을 사회과 교육과정 구성 및 수업 설계에 적극적으로 고려할 것을 제안한다.

Abstract

This study was conducted to solve the research question, ‘Can the classroom climate that promotes thinking(classroom thoughtfulness) affect students’ critical thinking dispositions.’. This study researched the effects of classroom thoughtfulness in social studies classes on critical thinking dispositions and each sub-factor of critical thinking dispositions through multiple regression analysis. As a result of the analysis, the higher the perceived level of classroom thoughtfulness, the higher the student's critical thinking disposition score. And each sub-factor of critical thinking dispositions(intellectual integration, creativity, challenge, openness, prudence, objectivity, truth-seeking, inquiry) showed significant relation with classroom thoughtfulness. Also, the sub-factors of classroom thoughtfulness(general dimension, teacher behavior dimension, and student behavior dimension) showed a significant relationship with critical thinking dispositions. This study suggest to consider the various characteristics of the class environment when curriculum experts and social studies teachers compose social studies curriculum and design social studies classes.
