Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examined the professional identity of counseling (and counselors) on what kind of identity counseling practitioners perceive themselves, how they perceive it to be different from adjacent fields, and how the general public perceives counseling (and counselors). To this end, data were collected from 926 members of the Korean Counseling Psychological Association with KCPA certificates, and 328 ordinary people with counseling experience. As a results of data analysis through CQR-M, counseling practitioners define counseling through the goals of counseling, the process of counseling, and the qualifications and roles of counseling professionals. In addition, it is reported that there is uniqueness of counseling that is different from the adjacent fields in terms of tools, human view, areas of interest, roles, qualifications and qualities, and clients. Based on this, the implications that the KCPA can refer to redefine the future vision were discussed.
