Abstract

The purpose of this article is a preliminary consideration for description of Korean history of 'learning of changes'. Sequentially, I, first, looked into the issues relevant to the ideas of Yin-Yang and Five-Elements' of the ancient age, and then studied the cultural tendencies of 'learning of changes' and Book of Changes of Goguryeo, Baekje and Shinra. In terms of content, this study is based on such three axis as ① 'learning of changes' in the political aspect, ② the culture of Book of Changes in the daily life culture, and ③ 'learning of changes' in academic and ideological aspects. The key issue for this study is how to fill out the content with little materials and furthermore how to translate such materials rationally. Korea has had the tradition of thinking based on 'learning of changes' since the ancient era, which formed a cultural character. This article claimed that Korean's own unique cultural tradition, especially the prototypical thinking structure of Korean national culture, should be admired as it is. Historically, Korean 'learning of changes' was not poor. It was rather advanced as high as it could be distinguished from Chinese 'learning of changes' showing its own unique character. Korean ancient history of 'learning of changes' should deal with such points as the fact that Wang Bi (王弼) referred to Goguryeo people's arguments to annotate Book of Changes; the fact that Baekje Incense Burner deeply reflects the idea of Book of Changes; the fact that Choi Chi-won (崔致遠) interpreted Pung-Ryu-Do (風流道), a Korean unique idea, in the viewpoint of Book of Changes and so on.
