Abstract
Purpose : This study investigates the effects of information spillover using the Korean KOSPI200 sector index (economic consumer goods, household consumer goods, finance, information and technology, energy and chemicals, steel materials, heavy industry, and construction) and the economic uncertainty index. Research design, data, methodology : This study uses the spillover index of Diebold and Yilmaz (2009, 2012, 2014) and the TVP-VAR model of Antonakkis et al. (2020) to analyze the information spillover of the eight sector indices and the economic uncertainty index, and the data period is from January 2010 to December 2022. Results : The result suggests that there is a linkage between KOSPI200 sector index, and events such as the European financial crisis in 2010, the Chinese stock market crash in 2015, and COVID-19 in 2020 strengthen the linkage. Economic policy uncertainty affects spillovers. Conclusions : The results show that the KOSPI200 sector index linkages are dominated by the heavy industry, steel materials, construction, and energy and chemicals sectors, and that the heavy industry and steel materials sectors in particular play an important role in information transmission between markets. Therefore, the information transmission effect of KOSPI200 should be considered when constructing portfolios, and financial authorities should monitor and manage the strengthening of market linkages in extreme events
