This study is to examine improvement issues in the national pension system for strengthening the old-age income security of women. We classify the national pension system into the following three areas: entry, support, and supply. We review the current status of the national pension system and then propose improvement issues in each of three areas of the national pension system. The summary of the study is as follows. First, the age at entry to the national pension system should be expanded to those aged 65. Second, the credit system for nursing and caring by women should be reinforced. Third, the extinction of the pension for the bereaved family should be revised as being suspended during times of remarriage. Fourth, the eligibility to receive split annuity should be reduced to one year of marriage length of period. We also provide limitations of this study and suggestions for further study.
