초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the features of five English-English-Korean dictionaries: COBUILD, Essence, Longman, Oxford, and Prime. These dictionaries are examined based on headwords, meaning description, pronunciation, collocation, grammar and usage, and appendix. COBUILD separates Korean information from English information and provides detailed usage information. Essence has the most headwords and a number of examples. Longman and Oxford provide translation of definitions as well as Korean equivalents. Prime puts emphasis on separating English and Korean information and giving Korean equivalents, rather than offering other kinds of information. It could be concluded that COBUILD and Essence suit learners with advanced-level of English proficiency who want to use dictionaries for vocabulary learning, while Longman and Oxford are more suitable for lower-level learners. Prime is helpful to intermediate-level learners.
