본 연구의 목적은 발달장애인을 위한 대학교육의 발전 과정을 역사적으로 고찰하고, 현재 교육제도의 한계와 개선 방향을 제안하는 데 있다. 연구는 문헌 분석과 사례 연구를 통해 시계열적으로 접근을 시도하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, K대학 J학과는 발달장애 고등교육의 선도적 역할을 수행하며 인문･사회학적 소양을 배양하는 교육 방향을 정해왔다. 또한 맞춤형 교과 및 비교과 과정을 개발하고, 심리･정서 상담을 위한 다각적 지원체계를 구축하였으며, 지역사회 연결망을 강화하고 사회적 인식 개선을 통해 포용적 교육문화를 조성하는데 기여하였다. 둘째, J학과의 지속적인 성장을 위해 강화 및 보완 사항으로는 교육환경 개선(수강 인원 제한 및 교육 접근성 향상), 4학기제 도입을 통한 교육 연계성 및 지속성 확보, 지역사회 및 산업체와의 협력 강화, 심리적･정서적 안정 지원 체계 확충, 장학금 및 재정 지원 확대, 교직원의 장애 인식 제고, 그리고 관련 연구 활성화 등이 제시되었다. 본 연구는 발달장애 학생의 대학교육 실천을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to historically examine the development process of higher education for individuals with developmental dis abilities, identify the limitations of the current educational system, and propose directions for improvement. The research methodology primar ily involved a chronological review based on literature analysis and case studies. The results of the study are as follows. First, notable aspects in the development process of the Department of J at K University include its pioneering role in higher education for individuals with devel opmental disabilities, focusing on fostering humanistic and social com petencies, the development of customized curricular and extracurricular programs, the establishment of a multi-faceted support system for psy chological and emotional counseling, the creation of community net works, and efforts to improve societal awareness and cultivate an in clusive educational culture. Second, for the future growth of the Department of J, the following areas need to be strengthened or supple mented, improvement of the educational environment by limiting class sizes and enhancing accessibility, the introduction of a four-semester system to ensure continuity and connectivity in education, strengthening collaboration with local communities and industries ; enhancing support for psychological and emotional stability, expanding scholarships and financial aid ; raising awareness of disabilities among faculty and staff, and promoting related research activities. This study holds significance as it can serve as foundational and practical reference material for im plementing higher education for students with developmental disabilities.
