Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the current state of science and technology applied to the competition of Taekwondo competition and the overall situation in the operation of the competition, and to seek the development of the competition for competition. At this, it selected a total of 11 participants including 5 male players and 6 female players currently training at the Jincheon National Training Center in April of 2019 and after looking into the strengths and weaknesses of instant replays, electronic protectors, the differential point system, and octagon arenas in Taekwondo sparring through in-depth interviews, it sought out future development direction and gained the following results. First, instant replay processes and procedures should be modified and equipment should be supplemented so that all players, instructors, and even audience members can make verifications and so the fairness of decisions can be improved. Second, a stable system should be constructed for electronic protectors through the maintenance of close relationships between manufacturers and associations so that players can concentrate on competitions. Third, the differential point system, implemented for the interest and fun of sparring competitions, should be reorganized along with game rules to block the generation of anomalous kicking for points, and clear judgements should be made by installing sensors that allow for easy judgement of the exterior of octagon arenas. It is time for science to be applied to Taekwondo as it develops to increase possibilities of staying in the Olympics and to raise the status of Taekwondo sparring in Korea.
