본 연구는 펜싱의 무예적 가치를 재조명하고 생활체육으로서의 활성화 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 펜싱의 역사적 발전 과정, 무예로서의 가치, 현대 스포츠와 무예적 특성의 조화, 생활체육으로서의 가치와 효과, 그리고 활성화 방안을 체계적으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 펜싱은 고대 문명의 검술에서 시작하여 현대에 이르기까지 문화적, 교육적 가치를 축적해왔으며, 이는 현대 스포츠로서의 펜싱이 지닌 무예적 특성의 역사적 기반이 되고 있다. 둘째, 무예로서의 펜싱은 신체-정신의 통합적 발달, 윤리적 가치 함양, 자기 개선, 문화유산으로서의 가치 등 다층적 의미를 내포한다. 셋째, 경기 스포츠와 무예로서의 펜싱은 기술적 숙련도, 정신적 훈련 등의 공통점을 공유하면서도, 목적, 기술의 적용, 철학적 접근 등에서 차이점을 보인다. 넷째, 생활체육으로서의 펜싱은 신체적, 정신적, 사회적 측면에서 다양한 긍정적 효과를 제공한다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 펜싱의 생활체육 활성화를 위해 학교체육과의 연계, 인프라 구축, 홍보 전략 등이 체계적으로 수립되어야 함을 제안하였다. 본 연구는 펜싱의 무예적 가치와 생활체육 활성화 방안을 종합적으로 분석했다는 점에서 의의가 있으나, 실증적 데이터의 부족이라는 한계를 지닌다. 향후 연구에서는 이러한 한계를 보완하여 더욱 실증적이고 체계적인 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to reexamine the martial arts value of fencing and explore ways to promote it as a recreational sport. The study systematically analyzed the historical development of fencing, its value as a martial art, the harmony between modern sports and martial arts characteristics, and strategies for its promotion as a recreational sport. The research findings show that fencing has evolved from ancient civilizations' swordsmanship to accumulate cultural and educational values, serving as the historical foundation for its martial arts characteristics. As a martial art, fencing encompasses integrated physical-mental development, ethical values cultivation, and self-improvement. While sharing commonalities with competitive sports in technical proficiency and mental training, it maintains distinct characteristics in purpose, technical application, and philosophical approach. Furthermore, as a recreational sport, fencing provides significant physical, mental, and social benefits. The study suggests systematic approaches including linkage with school physical education, infrastructure development, and promotional strategies should be established to promote fencing as a recreational sport. While this study is significant in comprehensively analyzing fencing's martial arts value and promotional strategies, future research requires more empirical and systematic studies to complement current limitations.
