Abstract

Recently, there has been a shift in the perception of “how can we effectively suffer disasters?” under the idea that disasters are part of life and that it is impossible to prevent and avoid them completely. As a result, ‘Resilience’ is newly emphasized, and research on ‘Resilience’ is continuously increasing in Korea. However, in-depth theories and literature review on the concept and measurement of disaster resilience are relatively insufficient. Therefore, this study conducted a literature review on the concept and measurement of disaster resilience. First, the terminological origins and concepts of resilience were examined. Second, the concept, scope and properties of disaster resilience were reviewed in disaster management studies. Third, the measurement of disaster resilience was reviewed. Finally, this study pointed out the limitations of research on the disaster resilience and implemented suggestions.
