유아교사의 지리교과교육학지식과 지리 교수효능감의 관계

본 연구는 유아교사의 지리교과교육학지식과 지리 교수효능감의 전반적인 경향과 교사의 개인적 변인에 따른 차이를 알아보고, 지리교과교육학지식과 지리 교수효능감 간의 관계를 알아보고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구를 위해 김나연(2016)과 조형숙(1997)의 연구에서 번안하여 사용한 도구를 수정하여 사용하였다. 서울 및 수도권 지역에 소재한 유치원 및 어린이집 교사 211명을 대상으로 연구한 결과 첫째, 유아교사의 지리교과교육학지식은 전반적으로 낮게 나타났으며 교사마다 차이가 큰 것으로 나타났고, 지리 영역과 사례의 내용에 따라 지리교과교육학지식을 적용하고 활용하는데 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 교사의 교육정도, 소지한 자격증, 지리 과목 수강 여부에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 유아교사의 지리 교수효능감은 전반적으로 높게 나타나지 않았고 변인별 차이에서 교육정도에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 유아교사의 지리교과교육학지식과 지리 교수효능감의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 지리 교수효능감의 하위유형 중 교수능력에 대한 신념과 전반적인 지리 교수효능감에서 정적 상관이 있었고 하위요인 중 결과에 대한 기대와 지리교과교육학지식은 유의한 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구 결과는 유아교육 전반에 지리 교육의 중요성에 대한 인식을 재고할 수 있는 교사교육과 더불어 질 높은 지리교육을 위한 다각적인 연구의 필요성을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate overall aspects of pedagogical content knowledge in geography, geography teaching efficacy in of early childhood teachers, and the difference among teachers attributable to teachers’ personal backgrounds, and to analyze the correlation between pedagogical content knowledge in geography and geography teaching efficacy. The research was conducted by studying 211 early childhood teachers working in different kindergartens and child care centers in Seoul and metropolitan areas. Research tools were adapted and used based on the modified version of tools that used in Kim(2016) and Cho(1997). The results of this study are as follows. First, early childhood teachers generally show low pedagogical content knowledge in geography, and show significant discrepancies among individual teachers with teachers’ individual differences, geography content strands, and type of teaching scenarios. Also, Key variables including educational background, certifications, and the number of geography courses she has taken had meaningful effects on teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge level. Second, the overall teaching efficacy in geography was not high. Among the teachers’ personal variables, educational background and the number of geography courses she has taken were the most significant variables. Last, as a result of examining the correlation between teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge and geography teaching efficacy, the pedagogical content knowledge in geography is positively correlated with the personal geography teaching efficacy and overall efficacy in teaching geography. The results of this study suggest that multifaceted research and teacher education are needed to recognize and promote the importance of pedagogical content knowledge and teaching efficacy in geography for high quality early childhood geographic education.
