<Termination of the verb ‘ᄒᆞ다’>(1896) 경어 체계 분석 연구

Abstract

The purposes of this study are to arrange the descriptions about the honorific system and examine its characteristics in a Korean language study material <Termination of the Verb ‘다’> during the modernperiod. For these purposes, the investigator divided the methods of describing the honorific system in <Termination of the Verb ‘다’> into two groups and analyzed them. In addition, based on this, the characteristics were identified by comparing them with the <辭課指南(과지남)>. For honorific expressions, <Termination of the Verb ‘다’> first used such expressions “honorific,” “respectful” and “polite”. (‘Hapsho’ with “honorific”, “very respectful”; ‘Hao’ with “slightly respectful,” “polite and respectful”; ‘Hage’ with “least polite”; ‘Haera’ with “not respectful.”) <Termination of the Verb ‘다’> then offers explanations according to the different classes of speakers in conversations. When speaker is in upper and listener is in lower, the ‘Hage’ and ‘Haera’ are usually used. When two are in the same, ‘Hao’ and ‘Hage’ are used most. When speaker is in lower and listener is in upper, usually in ‘Hapsho’ and ‘Hao’. In addition, the honorific system was described in more detail and accurately than <辭課指南(과지남)>, and the degree of height was expressed in more diverse ways. <Termination of the Verb ‘다’> is a study material of huge significance in that it tries to convey the meanings of the honorific system in Korean to its learners through various expressions including “honorific,” “respectful”, “polite” and describes the honorific system according to the high and low of participants in conversations based on their hierarchical relations.
