This paper aims to examine the characteristics and diachronic change of conditional connective ‘–damyeon’ by comparing with another conditional connective ‘–myeon‘. Diachronically ‘-damyeon’ has developed from indirect quotation. However ‘damyeon’ is not able to return to original composition and to be seperated by other elements because it has become a connective ending through the process of fusion. Generally ‘-damyeon’ is used for counterfactual condition and not used for causal condition. As a result, ‘-damyeon’ as distinguished from ‘-myeon’ is in the process of changing to a connective ending for condition which is more counterfactual and non-causal.
