초록

This study aims to unveil the whole story of children’s songspublished in Sinsonyeon in the 1920s. For this, scattered empirical datahave been collected, and poor parts in the previous studies were madeup. In the early stage, the creative songs for children had to adopt thepatterns, stories and rhetoric of traditional children’s songs. Entering1925, the creative songs for children started to have their own formatand contents by the participation of established writers and juvenilewriters. As a result, they began to settle as a lyric genre for children’sliterature. The writers who had their children’s songs in Sinsonyeon in the1920s include Kim Seok-jin, Chung Yeol-mo, Kim Nam-joo, Chung Jiyongand Song Wan-soon. In particular, Chung Yeol-mo, Kim Nam-jooand Chung Ji-yong played a bridgehead’s role in classifying children’ssongs into traditional songs and creative songs by creating liberalrhythms instead of sticking to the standard seven-five syllablestructure. Especially, ‘Composition of Children’s Song’ written byChung Yeol-mo had a significant influence. Instead of following thestandard formation (seven-five, four-four syllable structure), they daredto overcome the limit of children’s songs which were buried inschematism from the 1920s. Meanwhile, the works (ex: children’s song, essay, picture, etc.)published on Sinsonyeon were also introduced in Readers’ LiteraryCircles’. Readers’ Literary Circles played a role of public sphere forjuvenile writers who engaged in juvenile literary activities whileattending school or night school. In addition, it served as a steppingstonefor them to grow into the level of established writers in the1930s. These writers include Yoon Seok-jung, Shin Goh-song, SeoDeok-chul, Yoon Bok-jin, Seung Eung-soon, Lee Chung-goo, KwonHwan, Lee Seong-hong and Ahn Pyeong-won. From the perspective of literary history, it is meaning in that manyjuvenile writers had a chance to contemplate the sorrow and grief ofthe times with the established writers through Sinsonyeon even thoughthey failed to make a debut as a professional writer.
