초록
This article studied the characteristics of <Sohaksaeng>, which is a representative children’s magazine published during the liberation period in Korea. The article examined the publication settings and basic tendency in relation to school education. <Sohaksaeng>was founded on February 11, 1946, was distributed through schools, and had a great influence on children. Originally, the magazine was published every Monday under the title of <weekly Sohaksaeng>. Since issue number 46 (May 1947), the magazine changed its name to <Sohaksaeng>and was published monthly until the 6.25 War began in 1950. The last issue was number 79. Yun, Seok-Jung, who is a representative writer of children’s literature in Korea, was the person most involved in publishing <Sohaksaeng>. The publisher Eulyumunhwasa also had a great influence on the magazine, and one of the founding members of it was Yun . Most writers of <Sohaksaeng>were the same as the writers for Eulyumunhwasa. The human resources of Eulyumunhwasa supported the magazine’s distribution in schools. Based on this background, <Sohaksaeng> was highly associated with school education; the magazine was even used as a textbook in schools. First of all, the magazine included various contents about schools, such as school visits and an introduction of education systems. In addition, issues on Hangeul education were often reported, which was prohibited during the Japanese colonial period. Therefore, <Sohaksaeng> could be considered one of the most representative children’s magazines of the time, as it used schools as a base environment and dominated them in advance after Korea’s liberation. Since the liberation, as the number of students explosively increased, the magazine recognized that most children could be also called ‘students’ and gradually changed its editing directions in accordance with this situation. That is, when the education system was aligned after the liberation, this magazine contributed to the way in which the education system enabled children to become ‘students’around ‘schools’.
