초록

The international community has been facing the challenge of climate change and promoting climate change response asa core area of international development aid. In this context, this study examined the current status of climate change projectsconducted by international organizations in developing countries and investigated the success factors of these projects as a referencefor public or private institutions concerned with R&D or overseas business. Focusing on World Bank projects involving climatechange, we reviewed 108 completed or on-going projects in 9 Southeast Asian countries, interviewed the project task managers andconducted in-depth case studies on two of Vietnam’s energy projects for qualitative analysis. As a result, it was found that the project’scommitment and responsibility were the most important success factors in the developing countries’ climate change project. Trustbuilding and smooth communication with business partners were also found to be important success factors. Climate change projectshave been generally found to be more effective in linking existing development goals and strategies. Therefore, it is necessary toestablish a strategy to facilitate the involvement of the Korean government and public/private businesses in developing countries.
