Abstract
Metrical Feature of the Korean Poem and the Japanese Poem when Translated into the Other Language This study focuses upon the similarities and differences between the Korean poem as translated into Japanese versus the Japanese poem when translated into Korean. First, we can say that the Korean 4 yul-o ku form is equivalent to the Japanese 7,5cho. But there are some problems, i.e., the 4 yul-o ku has many different kinds of forms, like different numbers of syllables, but this diversity is lost when translated into Japanese because the Japanese poem has fixation. This problem also exists for the meaning of the poem. When translating a Japanese poem into Korean, regardless of whether it is the 75cho or the 57cho, both of them are equivalent to the Korean 4 yul-o ku. Even though, it is possible to translate keeping the number of syllables when translated, problems will result because of the difference in meaning rhythm and metrical rhythm in the Japanese poem versus Korean.
