Abstract

Ŭigwe 儀軌(official record of court events) is the literature intended to minimize trial and error by adopting and referring to it later as exemplary norms as they recorded the entire process of an event when there was a crucial case to be recorded or there was an important national ritual in Chosŏn 朝鮮Dynasty. Thus, we can see the general aspects of a crucial event that was held by royal family in Chosŏn with the records of ŭigwe. Ŭigwe includes important contents to be analyzed from the musicological perspective, so in the field of musicology, research results related with ŭigwe have been actively produced. Around this time, it seems to be quite significant to consider what value and significance ŭigwe has as the historical research records of musicology. Among many kinds of methodology for musicology, this article intensively examines ŭigwe as historical research records for iconography of music, historical records to reproduce royal family events, and also historical research records for social history of music. And it also examines the value and limitation of ŭigwe as historical records of musicology. This will be a chance to see ŭigwe from a more objective view and build a guideline to use ŭigwe actively afterwards and also to examine academic value and significance that ŭigwe has.
