통합교육 장면의 손 기술 결함 아동을 위한 중재 효과: 놀이중심 작업치료 접근에 의한 놀이의 증진

어린이집에 통합된 2명의 손 기술 결함 아동에게 놀이중심 작업치료 접근의 중재를 하고 이들의 손 기술 관련 놀이가 증진되는지 알아보았다. 지적, 적응적 어려움도 보이는 이들은 기초선 관찰에서 손 기술 관련 놀이의 수행이 매우 저조하여, 잠깐씩 하다마는 혼자놀이가 대부분이었고 또래와의 손 기술 관련 놀이 활동에 전혀 참여하지 못하였다. 놀이중심의 작업치료 중재는 그리기, 자르기, 쌓기, 끼우기 및 잡기 등, 다양한 손 기술의 활용이 집중적으로 요구되는 반구조화된 놀이 활동으로 구성하였다. 중재 및 유지 단계의 관찰 결과, 이들의 손 기술 관련 혼자놀이의 빈도는 감소한 반면, 그 지속시간 및 또래의 놀이 참여 빈도와 지속시간은 증가하였다. 놀이 중 교사 및 또래와 더 많이 상호작용하고 놀이에 열중하는 등 놀이의 질도 향상되었다. 유아교육 현장에서의 놀이중심 작업치료의 적용에 관한 시사점이 논의되었다.

Abstract

This study examined a play-based occupational therapy intervention program for children with hand skill problems to determine if such a program could help the children to initiate their own play and join spontaneously in play with their peers. For 24 sessions over an 8 week period, two boys with mental and adaptation difficulties participated in the program which consisted of semi-structured play activities requiring intensive use of various hand skills, such as drawing, cutting, piling, inserting and grasping. During free play time the frequency and time length of play activities related to the intervention activities and play episodes were recorded and quantitative and qualitative changes between before, during, and after the program were analyzed. The children showed remarkable positive changes in the time length of self-directed play activities and the frequency and time length of their participation in their peers' play activities. The quality of their verbal play interactions with both teachers and peers as well as their play engagement were also enhanced.
