메타픽션 그림책의 기법 분석과 그에 대한 유아의 이해- ‘그림책 속 그림책’ 구조를 중심으로 -

현대 유아는 다양한 그림책을 접하고 있고, 최근 들어서는 메타픽션 기법이 사용된 그림책들도 접하고 있는 상황이다. 하지만, 국내외에서 유아가 메타픽션 그림책을 얼마나 잘 이해하는지를 살펴본 연구는 거의 없으며, 특히 취학 전 유아의 메타픽션 그림책에 대한 반응을 평가한 연구는 아직 없다. 이러한 배경 하에 본 연구에서는 대표적인 메타픽션 형식인 ‘그림책 속 그림책’의 구조를 지닌 다섯 권의 메타픽션 그림책에 대한 유아의 반응을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 ‘그림책 속 그림책’ 구조를 지닌 다섯 권의 그림책에 나타난 메타픽션의 기법을 분석한 다음, 이들 기법에 대한 유아의 이해 정도를 연구하였다. 연구 결과, ‘그림책 속 그림책’ 구조의 그림책에 가장 많이 나타난 메타픽션 기법은 다중 내러티브 기법이었고, 그 다음은 전통적인 시․공간 관계의 붕괴 기법이었다. 그리고 만 5세 유아는 다섯 권의 메타픽션 그림책에 여러 이야기가 들어있다는 점에 대해 대체로 잘 이해하고 있었고, 각 메타픽션 기법에 대한 이해 정도는 그림책에 따라 다른 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Today’s young children read picturebooks of various kinds and are exposed to picturebooks with metafictive techniques. However, domestic investigations of preschool children's understanding of metafiction picturebooks are rare and, in fact, there is no research on the evaluation of preschool children's responses to metafiction picturebooks. To remedy this situation, this study investigates the responses of preschool children to five metafiction picturebooks exhibiting the 'picturebooks-within- picturebooks' structure. The metafictive forms appearing in the selected picturebooks were analyzed and then young children's understanding of each metafictive technique was analyzed. Analyisis of the children’s responses reveals that the most popular metafictive technique appearing in the picturebooks of the 'picturebooks-within- picturebooks' structure is the technique of multiple narratives and the next most popular one is the disruptions of traditional time and space relations in the narratives. Analysis of the children's responses shows that young children of age 5 years of age have a good understanding of the existence of multiple narratives. However, the level of their understanding of the technique differs from one picturebook to another.
