본 연구는 가정에서 이루어지는 영아와 어머니의 그림책 읽기 상호작용을 토대로 어머니의 행동특성과 영아의 행동특성 및 애착 안정성과의 관계를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 24～36개월 사이의 만 2세 영아와 어머니 40쌍을 대상으로, 가정을 개별 방문하여 그림책 읽기 상호작용을 관찰하고 애착 안정성을 측정하였다. 연구 결과 첫째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서 어머니들은 다정한/협력적인 행동특성을 많이 보였고, 영아들은 열정적이고 집중력이 높고 잘 순응하며 긍정적 분위기의 행동특성을 많이 보였다. 둘째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성이 영아의 행동특성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 그림책 읽기 상호작용에서의 어머니 행동특성 중 정서적 분리의 행동이 영아의 애착 안정성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between maternal behavior characteristics, infants’ behavior characteristics and attachment security, based on observed interaction between mothers and infants as mothers read picturebooks to their infants at home. Subjects were forty 24-and 36-month-old infants and their mothers. Observations were made during each picturebook reading of the mother’s characteristics and her infant’s behaviors and then each infant’s attachment security was measured. The results of this study are as follows: First, in picturebook interaction, when mothers showed warm/supportive behavior characteristics, their children showed high enthusiasm, focused attention, compliance and positive mood. Second, when maternal behavior during picturebook interaction was characterized by detachment, the infant’s attachment security was affected negatively. In sum, when a mother was warm and supportive during the reading, her infant responded to the interaction with positive behavior and the infant’s attachment security was positive. Conversely, detached behavior on the part of the mother correlated with strong negative security attachment.
