유아의 성별․기질․정서지능 및 어머니의 또래관계 관리전략과 유아의 또래유능성간의 구조적 관계 연구

본 연구에서는 유아의 성별, 기질, 정서지능 및 어머니의 또래관계 관리전략과 유아의 또래유능성 간의 구조적 모형을 설정하고 모형 내 어머니 또래관계 관리전략의 매개적 효과를 분석하였다. 301명 유아의 어머니를 대상으로 유아의 기질, 또래관계 관리전략에 대한 설문 조사를 실시하였고 해당 교사 17명을 대상으로 개별 유아의 또래유능성과 정서지능을 평정하도록 하였다. 유아의 또래유능성에 대한 구조적 관계를 분석한 결과, 어머니의 또래관계 관리전략과 유아의 정서지능은 유아의 또래유능성에 대해 통계적으로 유의하며 직접적인 설명력을 나타내었다. 그러나 또래관계 관리전략은 유아의 기질과 또래유능성간의 관계에 있어서 매개적 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났으나 유아의 정서지능과 또래유능성 간의 관계에 있어서는 매개적 영향력을 갖지 않았다. 유아의 기질(반응성)은 어머니의 또래관계 관리전략 중 조언·관심을 매개로 유아의 또래유능성에 간접적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 반면 유아의 성별과 기질(적응성과 반응성)은 유아의 정서지능을 통해 유아의 또래유능성에 간접적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통하여 유아의 또래유능성을 이해하는 데 유아의 성별과 기질 특성뿐 아니라 매개변인으로서 유아의 정서지능과 어머니의 또래관계 관리전략의 중요성을 파악할 수 있었다.

Abstract

This study aims to facilitate awareness of the important roles maternal peer management strategies and children’s gender and temperament play in understanding peer competence To this end, this study establishes and analyzes a structural model of children’s peer competence assessing whether or not it is significantly influenced by children’s gender, temperament and emotional intelligence, and/or the maternal peer management strategies of their mothers. A survey regarding temperament and maternal peer management strategies was conducted with 301 mothers. The peer competence and emotional intelligence of each child were evaluated by 17 teachers. The results of the analysis are: 1) The maternal peer management strategies did not appear to be mediators in the relationship between the emotional intelligence and peer competence of their children. 2) However, acts of mediation and supervision, used as part of overall maternal peer management strategies, were seen to have direct, expository properties of influence on the children’s peer competence. 3) The peer management strategies of children were found to be mediators in the relationship between temperament and peer competence. 4) The temperament of individual children exerted indirect influence on peer competence in situations of counseling and caring. 5) Gender and temperament influenced emotional intelligence and served as expressive mediums among various maternal peer management strategies.
