유아기 형제간 사회적 놀이와 형제구조, 기질, 또래유능성의 관계

본 연구에서는 유아기 형제간 사회적 놀이와 형제구조, 기질, 또래유능성의 관계와 형제간 사회적 놀이에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 살펴보려고 한다. 연구 대상은 같은 유치원에 다니는 만 3∼5세 형제 30쌍이며, 비구조화된 관찰 상황에서 형제 쌍의 사회적 놀이를 관찰하고, 기질(EAS)과 또래유능성(CBS) 도구를 사용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 형제간 사회적 놀이는 여자형제, 윗형제일수록 더 높은 수준의 사회적 놀이를 하며 형제구조에 따라 일부분 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 유아의 사회성, 수줍음과 정서성의 기질에 따라 더 높은 수준의 사회적 놀이를 하는 것으로 나타나 유아의 기질은 형제간 사회적 놀이와 관련이 있었다. 셋째, 유아가 또래관계에서 부정적인 또래유능성을 가졌을 경우 형제간에 낮은 수준의 사회적 놀이를 하는 편이었다. 마지막으로 형제구조가 자매이고 첫째아이며 수줍어하지 않는 기질과 친사회적인 또래유능성이 형제간 사회적 놀이를 설명하는데 상대적 영향력을 미치는 주요 변인으로 나타났다. 따라서 유아의 사회화 과정에서 중요한 역할을 하는 놀이에 유아의 형제관계, 기질과 또래유능성과 같은 유아의 내, 외적 요인이 영향을 미치기 때문에 다각적인 측면에서 유아의 놀이를 이해하고 발달을 위한 환경과 경험을 제공할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study investigates the correlations among a child’s social play behaviors with a sibling and the sibling’s birth order and gender, the child's temperament, and peer competence and seeks out those variables which predict social play behaviors between siblings. Subjects were 30 sibling pairs in kindergartens located at Seoul. The sibling’s shared social play was observed during unstructured free-play time and coded with criteria established by McElwain & Volling(2005). The child's temperament was rated by the mother using the EAS of Buss & Plomin(1984). Peer competence was rated by siblings’ teacher using the CBS of Ladd & Profilet (1996). The results of this study reveal 1) significant differences between higher level social play behaviors with a sibling when the sibling is a sister or is older; 2) significant relationships between higher level social play behaviors and children's sociability, activity and emotionality temperament; 3) significant relationships between lower level social play behaviors and an aggressiveness behavior, an asocial behavior, and a hyperactive-distractible behavior among peer competence and lastly, 4) the results reveal that the significant variables predicting social play behaviors between sibling are sisters, an older sibling, a non-shyness temperament, or a prosocial behavior with peers.
