유아의 목표중심 이야기 구성력에 관한 연구

본 연구의 목적은 만 4, 5세 유아들의 목표중심 이야기 구성력이 어떠한지 알아보는데 있다. 연구의 대상은 충청북도 C시의 4개, D군의 1개 유아교육기관에 재원 중인 만 4, 5세 유아 144명이다. 연구도구는 Stein & Policastro(1984)가 제시한 이야기 개념 도식(Concept of a story diagram)으로서, 1수준-4수준은 목표 없는 이야기 구조로, 5수준-8수준은 목표중심이야기 구조로 구분된다. 연구 결과 첫째, 연구대상 유아 144명 중 32%인 46명의 유아가 주인공의 목표중심 이야기를 구성하였고 112개의 에피소드가 산출 되었으며, 연령에 따른 발달적 차이를 보여 주었다. 또한 연구대상 유아들이 구성한 목표중심 이야기의 3분의 2정도가하나 이상의 에피소드로 구성되었으며, 유아들은 나이가 많아짐에 따라 목표중심의 이야기를더 길게 구성하는 경향으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 내용 구성 면에서 유아들은 목표를 대부분 함축적으로 진술하는(74%) 경향이 있으며, 명시적으로 진술하는 비율은 비교적 낮은(26%) 것으로 나타났다. 대부분(71%)의 유아들이 목표중심 이야기에 2인 이상의 인물을 등장시켰으며, 주인공과 등장인물 간의 관계는 갈등관계 59%, 협력관계 32%, 독립관계 9%로 나타났다. 목표중심 이야기의 각 에피소드에서 만 4세 유아들은 결과를 더 함축적으로 표현하는 반면, 만 5세 유아는 명시적으로 표현하는 의미 있는 경향을 보였다. 셋째, 플롯 구조면에서 연구대상 유아들의 주인공 목표중심 이야기에 장애 출현이 점차 증가하며, 시간관계 계열로 에피소드 간을 연결하는 경향이 있는 한편, 인과관계 계열로 연결하는 경우는 19%로 비교적 낮은 비율이었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the goal-based story construction ability of 4-5 year-olds. Based on the concept of a story diagram by Stein & Policastro(1984), 144 young children's stories were analyzed. Results of the study are as follows: First, 32% of the subjects could construct protagonist's goal-based story, and it showed a tendency to dependent on age. Second, children generated two types of protagonist's goal statement. The statement showed a tendency much more implicit than explicit. Mostly, two or more characters appeared in the protagonist's goal-based story. Relationships of characters' goal-based actions showed conflict, cooperative, independent relation in order. More than half of the relationships were conflict. Four-year-olds expressed more implicit goal attainments than explicit goal attainments. However, Five-year- olds expressed goal attainments in the other way. Third, more obstacles appeared in the plot structure of the protagonist's goal-based story by age. The story showed a tendency of interconnections between episodes by temporal sequence. Causal links between episodes appeared in 19%.
