유아의 얼굴표정을 통한 정서인식이 공감능력에 미치는 효과

본 연구는 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식에 대한 성별과 연령의 차이를 알아보고, 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식과 공감능력간의 상관관계와 영향력을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 G시에 위치한 사립유치원 만 3-5세 유아 120명이다. 검사 도구는 조경자, 박수진, 송인혜, 김혜리(2007)의 얼굴표정 정서인식 검사도구를 수정하여 사용하였고, Feshbach & Roe(1968)의 Affective Situation Test(AST)를 최미숙(2010)이 수정한 공감능력 검사도구를 사용하였다. 자료 분석은 SPSS WIN 21.0 프로그램을 사용하여 t-검증, 일원변량분석, Scheffe 사후검증, Pearson의 상관관계분석과 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 자료 분석 결과 첫째, 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식은 여아가 남아보다, 5세가 3세와 4세에 비해 더 정확하게 인식하였다. 둘째, 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식과 공감능력간의 관계를 살펴본 결과 둘 사이에 유의미한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식이 공감능력을 예측하는 의미 있는 변인인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 얼굴표정을 통한 유아의 정서인식이 공감능력향상과 관련하여 유아교육현장에서 중요하게 고려되어야 함을 시사한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate children’s emotion awareness through facial expression by gender and, age. We also examine associations between children's emotion awareness through facial expression and empathy. The subjects were 120 children (age range, 45-78 months; 50% boys) enrolled in a private kindergarten. An Facial Expression Test(developed from Cho, Park, Song, & Kim, 2007) and an Affective Situation Test(developed from Feshbach & Roe, 1968) were used to collect data. The data was analyzed using the SPSS WIN 21.0 program for t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Moments Correlations, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed first, that girls scored higher on the emotion awareness than boys In addition, five-year-olds scored higher on emotion awareness than three to four-year-olds. Second, there were significant relationships between children’s emotion awareness through facial expression and empathy. Third, children’s emotion awareness through facial expression was a predictor of their empathy. These results suggest that young children’s emotion awareness through facial expression in relation to their empathy should be addressed in childhood education classrooms.
