본 연구는 유치원의 바깥놀이 활성화를 위한 방안을 모색하기 위한 목적으로 참여적 실행연구를 실시하고, 연구의 과정을 통한 교사와 유아의 변화를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 수도권에 위치한 유아교육기관에 재원하고 있는 만 5세 유아 26명과 담임교사 1명을 대상으로 참여적 실행연구를 실시하고, 참여관찰, 심층면담, 이미지 조사, 현지자료 조사와 기타자료 등을 수집하여 이를 바탕으로 해석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구의 과정을 통해 수업계획안의 개선, 환경의 변화와 관리자와 학부모의 인식변화, 유아 주도의 바깥놀이가 활성화되는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 둘째, 교사의 바깥놀이에 대한 적극적인 태도와 상호작용의 변화를 통해 유아는 바깥놀이를 ‘즐길 수 있는 자발적인 놀이’로서 인식하게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 교사의 바깥놀이 운영에 실질적 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법 모색과 실천이 교사의 전문성 향상과 바깥놀이의 질 향상에 기여하고, 이는 유아의 바깥놀이에 대한 인식에 긍정적 영향을 미치게 됨을 밝힘으로써 유치원의 바깥놀이 활성화에 기여할 수 있음을 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study aimed to seek ways of improvement, and to apply them to the outdoor play in kindergarten through a participatory action research. Their effects on teacher and children were also examined. Research questions based on the study objective were as follows. 1. How should the process of a participatory action research be arranged, for the improvement of outdoor play in kindergarten? 2. What changes did teacher and children experience through the process of a participatory action research in the improvement of outdoor play in kindergarten? The conclusions of this study were as following. First, the urgent problems at Baram kindergarten were addressed by a participatory action process with three sessions of action cycle. Second, with the process of a participatory action for the improvement of outdoor play, significant changes for teacher and children were found. The teacher conducted outdoor play more actively, and interactions with children increased. Due to changes in the outdoor play and in the teacher’s attitude, children recognized the outdoor play as ‘an enjoyable voluntary play’, and not merely playing outside. A participatory action research on the improvement of outdoor play in kindergarten enhanced the levels of operational capacity of the teacher, while keeping teacher’s on-site control of the improvement of outdoor play. This study suggests that the above process could be a practical and viable plan for kindergartens.
