본 연구는 프로젝트 접근법 기반 유아 민주시민교육 프로그램이 유아의 사회적 유능감과 지역공동체 의식에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 충청남도에 위치한 두 유치원의 총 44명 유아이며, 교사용 ‘유아의 사회적 유능감’과 ‘지역공동체 의식 척도’를 사용하였다. 연구기간은 2020년 6월 8일부터 2020년 9월 4일까지 총 12주에 걸쳐 실시하였다. 실험집단에서는 생활주제와 연계하여 프로젝트 접근법 기반 유아 민주시민교육을 실시하였으며, 비교집단에서는 생활주제 중심으로 누리과정에 기반을 둔 교육을 실시하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS Statistics 25를 사용하여 분석하였다. 사전검사 점수를 공변인으로 통제한 후 사후검사 점수가 집단 간 유의한 차이를 나타내는지 살펴보기 위해 일원공변량분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 첫째, 프로젝트 접근법 기반 유아 민주시민교육 프로그램은 유아의 사회적 유능감 향상에 효과가 있다. 둘째, 프로젝트 접근법 기반 유아 민주시민교육 프로그램은 유아의 지역사회 공동체 의식 향상에 효과가 있다. 본 연구는 유아교육기관에서 민주시민교육 프로그램으로 활용될 수 있는 기초를 마련하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study aimed to verify the effects of a project approach-based early childhood civic education program on children’s social competence and sense of community. A total of 44 toddlers from two kindergartens in Chungcheongnam-do were studied, and the ‘Toddlers’ Social Competence’ and ‘Sense of Community’ scales were used for teachers. The study was conducted from June 8, 2020 to September 4, 2020, for a total of 12 weeks. In the experimental group, early childhood civic education based on the project approach was conducted in connection with life topics. In the comparison group, education based on the Nuri process centered on life topics was conducted. The data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 25. After controlling for pretest scores as a covariate, a one-way ANOVA was conducted to examine whether post-test scores showed significant differences between groups. The results of the study were as follows. First, the project approach-based early childhood civic education program is effective in improving children’s social competence. Second, project- based early childhood civic education programs are effective in improving children’s sense of community. The significance of this study is that it laid the foundation for a civic education program that can be used in early childhood education institutions.
