Abstract
This study aims to examine issues related to smartphone use among infants and young children by analyzing big data from major portal sites. Online text data from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024 were examined using search keywords ‘infants’, ‘early childhood’, ‘smartphone’, and ‘use’. Keyword analyses were conducted through TF-IDF, centrality and CONCOR. According to TF-IDF, high-frequency keywords for infants reflected concerns about psychological development, whereas those for young children emphasized education and physical health. In the degree centrality analysis, the keyword ‘parents’ showed the highest centrality for infants, highlighting the parental role, whereas ‘smart device’ ranked highest for early childhood, suggesting the prominence of the device itself in discussions. The CONCOR revealed a common cluster for both age groups centered on topics related to overall health and development. Specifically, the infant group formed clusters around psychological and developmental institutions, while the young children group showed clusters related to educational uses of smart devices. These findings suggest that social issues of smartphone use vary depending on the developmental stage. This study is expected to provide foundational data for public policy on smartphone use and for developing educational materials for parents.
