Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effects of shared book reading using education for sustainable development picture books on young children’s economic concepts and environmentally friendly attitudes through an experimental study. The study subjects were 40 young children aged 5, organized as 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The experimental group participated in eight shared book reading using education for sustainable development picture books, while the control group followed the regular annual curriculum without additional educational intervention. An covariance (ANCOVA) analysis was conducted to compare the economic concepts between the two groups, and a t-test was used to examine differences in pre-test and post-test scores for environmentally friendly attitudes. The results revealed that the experimental group scored significantly higher in post-test economic concepts compared to the control group (F=16.05, p<.001). Additionally, significant differences were found in the subcategories of scarcity ․ choice ․ opportunity (F=8.14, p<.01), as well as consumption (F=12.10, p<.01). However, no significant differences were observed between the groups in environmentally friendly attitudes. Finally, this study discusses practical implications for enhancing young children’s economic concepts and environmentally friendly attitudes through shared book reading using education for sustainable development picture books.
