Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of edutech-based musical play on the musical creativity of five-year-old children and to analyze the characteristics of their musical responses and experiences during the play process. A mixed-methods design was employed with 27 five-year-old children from a childcare center in S City. The procedure consisted of a preliminary test, teacher consultation, pre-test, 16 sessions of edutech-based musical play for 8 weeks, and a post-test. For the quantitative analysis, pre- and post-tests on musical creativity were administered, and the effects were verified using ANCOVA. For the qualitative analysis, data from observation journals, photographs, audio recordings, interviews, and teacher logs were collected and analyzed through open coding, categorization, and thematic interpretation. The results showed that edutech-based musical play significantly improved children’s musical creativity. In addition, children engaged in experiences such as “exploring sounds to find musical ideas,” “expressing imagination through music,” “expanding musical imagination into play,” and “integrating musical elements within play.” These findings suggest that edutech-based musical play organically connects creative musical experiences and play, providing a meaningful context for fostering the development of musical creativity in young children.
