니체와 트랜스휴먼(Transhuman) -슬로터다이크(Peter Sloterdijk)의 포스트휴머니즘(Posthumanism)론을 중심으로

초록

현대 인문학의 고민거리 중 하나는 살아있는 생명을 복제하는 생명공학 및유전공학의 시대에 과연 우리가 어떻게 살아가야 할 것인가의 물음이다. 이런21세기의 새로운 생명공학의 도래는 이미 전통적으로 인문학이 표방해 왔던휴머니즘의 위기를 초래하는 동시에 새로운 위기의 돌파구를 마련했다. 이런시대적 흐름의 중심부에는 지나간 휴머니즘에 대해 종언을 고(告)하고, ‘새로운인간’의 탄생을 예고하는 포스트휴머니즘이 그 역할을 대신하고 있다. 이른바트랜스휴머니즘은 첨단기술의 발전이 미래 어느 시점에 특이점(singularity)에 도달하여 성공적으로 융합되면, 인간을 이러한 융합기술로 개조하여 생물학적 한계를 극복할 수 있다는 관점이다. 다시 말해 인간의 생물학적 신체는 도태되고 첨단기술에 의해 능력이 완전하게 증강하여 인간이후의 존재가 출현할것이라 예측한다. 슬로터다이크(Peter Sloterdijk, 1947~)에 따르면, “니체의 전복사상,동일한 것의 영원 회귀사상은 인공두뇌적(사이버네틱) 주제들의 재등장을 의미”하고 있다고 강조한다. 이러한 주제들은 로마황제시대이후로 최후에 그리고 르네상스 때도 어느 정도 의식적인 삶을 전개해 왔다는 것이다. 우리가 모든일에 대처할 각오가 되어 있다는 사실은 불사신처럼 영리하게 만들어 역사 대신삶, 실존적 축, 가정의 사회화, 정치에 대한 아이러니, 기획에 대한 불신을의미한다. 이것은 죽음 뒤의 삶을 믿지 않는 새로운 이교도적인 문화이기 때문에 죽음 이전의 삶을 찾아야 한다는 것이다. 슬로터다이크는 모든 휴머니즘문화에 대한 니체의 의혹에서 인류의 길들이기 비밀을 들추어내야 한다고 강력하게요구한다. 따라서 그는 인간을 유전학적으로 선별하고 사육할 수 있도록 만든생명공학은 포스트휴머니즘의 도래를 함축하고 있다고 보았다. 필자는 위의두 저서를 통해 슬로터다이크가 니체를 중심으로 설정한 니체의 계몽을 살펴보고 슬로터다이크의 비판적 계몽작업의 재구성, 그리고 보다 광범위한 영역에서향후 트랜스휴머니즘의 전망을 고찰해 보고자 한다.

Abstract

Probably, one of the concerns in modern humanities is how we should live a life in a time of biotechnology and genetic engineering when living things are cloned. With the coming of new biotechnology in the 21stcentury, humanism that humanities have claimed conventionally led its crisis while it caused to seek for a breakthrough of the new crisis. In addition, in the heart of this trend a post-humanism has been made an appearance, predicting the birth of ‘a new human ’by closing the past humanism. In other words, transhumanism is believed to come over biological restrictions through human being’s converging technology when a cutting-edge technology will have been improved and reached at a certain level of singularity by successfully being converged.To sum it up, human being’s biological body is predicted not to be able to adapt to the environment and to die out; introducing a human being of after-human being whose competence is completely enhanced. Peter Sloterdijk (1947~) pointed out that Nietzsche’s idea of subversion and that of eternal recurrence to the repeated meant re-occurring of cybernetic subjects. The subjects have been said to develop last since the age of Rome Emperor, and also to develop somewhat a conscious life in Renaissance. What the fact that we are ready to cope with everything in our lives means is a life, an existential framework, socialization of home, irony for politics, and disbelief of opportunity, by making us smart as an immortal being. This confirms that a life before death should be sought as a pagan culture not believing a life after death. In specific, Sloterdijk has strongly claimed to reveal the secret of domestication of human beings in Nietzsche’s suspicion on all kinds of humanism culture. Thus, he believed that biotechnology implied advent of post-humanism as it inevitably made human beings selected and bred genetically. Based on the two studies, this study was designed to investigate Nietzsche’s enlightenment set by Sloterdijk and to reorganize Sloterdijk’s critical enlightening works by going further toward prospective transhumanism on a wider scope.
