Abstract

This study intends to find some antecedents factors at parent and subsidiary level on influencing subsidiary CEO nationality. To test hypotheses, we used the sample which consisted of 245 Korean manufacturing firms in the U.S. The empirical results employing logit regression model generally supported our arguments. We found that (1) wholly owned subsidiaries were less likely to appoint local CEOs than joint venture subsidiaries, (2) the higher level of hiring local employees had a positive effect on the possibility of appointment of local CEOs, (3) subsidiaries affiliated to business group were more likely to appoint local CEOs, (4) large amount of capital in parent companies was positively related to the possibility of appointment of local CEOs, (5) large amount of liabilities negatively influenced the possibility of appointment of local CEOs.
