이 글의 목적은 칼 슈미트 정치이론의 핵심에 속하는 “정치적인 것”의 개념을 중심으로 그의 자유주의 비판의 긍정성과 한계를 살펴보는 것이다. 이 글은 세 부분으로 이루어져 있다. 첫 단락에서 정치적인 것의 성격과 아울러 정치적인 것의 부정을 시도하는 자유주의의 문제점이 서술된다. 두 번째 단락에서 다루어지는 것은 자유주의의 본질로 이해되는 토론과 대화에 대한 낙관적 믿음에 대한 슈미트의 비판이다. 이 단락은 슈미트의 자유주의 비판을 보다 더 상세하게 다루는데 기여한다. 마지막 단락은 정치와 도덕의 연관성에 대한 문제를 중심으로 슈미트의 자유주의 비판이 갖고 있는 문제점을 다룬다.
Abstract
This article deals with Carl Schmitt's critique of liberalism. In the first section it is explained why Schmitt thinks that liberalism, which negates and eliminates the political, is extremely dangerous and self-contradictional political theory. The second section deals with more specific aspects of Carl Schmitt's critique of liberalism. It deals with the intellectual foundations of liberal parliamentarism, because liberal theory assumes that political conflict can solved through reasonable discussion. Finally, some limits of Schmitt's critique of liberalism are discussed.
