이 글의 목표는 가다머가 어떻게 회의주의를 극복하려고 했는가를 밝히고자 하는 것이다. 그가 회의주의와 거리를 두고 있고, 또 그것에 반대하고 있다는 것은 거의 철학적 상식에 속한다. 그렇지만 『진리와 방법』에서 그가 겨냥하고 있는 회의주의의 정체는 좀처럼 드러나 있지 않다. 이런 불투명성은 회의주의에 대한 대응과 관련해서 가다머가 어떤 점에서 획기적인 전환을 이룩했는지를 모호하게 만든다. 회의주의와의 관계에 있어서 가다머가 개척한 길의 새로움을 충분히 깨달으려면 회의주의를 물리치려는 그의 철학적 기획의 거시적인 맥락을 들여다보아야 한다. 가다머가 대결해야 하는 회의주의자가 분명하게 밝혀져야 하고, 회의적 논변에 대응하는 보편적 해석학의 이론들이 하나하나 검토되어야 한다. 이런 연후에야 비로소 『진리와 방법』에서 가다머가 전개하고 있는 여러 이론들의 진의(眞義)가 좀 더 심도 있게 간취될 수 있다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to express how Gadamer could overcome scepticism. It is an almost philosophical common sense that he is far from scepticism and even opposed to it. However, the identity of scepticism which Gadamer wants to attack is hidden in Truth and Method. So it is difficult to apprehend the significant changeover he has made in relation to the response to scepticism. If we are to recognize a new way Gadamer has developed in this subject, we have to investigate his philosophical project in the context of long history of philosophy defeating scepticism. Only by this work what Gadamer is trying to say in Truth and Method could be exposed more clearly and concretely.
