이청준 격자소설의 특징은 1960년대 한국의 근대를 마주하는 작가 자신의 특정한 인식과 태도가 투사된 것이다. 그것은 내용과 형식, 인물과 주제 등을 포괄하는 강박신경증의 주체형식으로 요약된다. 이청준 격자소설의 중심에 있는 강박신경증의 주체형식은 한국적 근대성의 경험 앞에서 혼란스러움과 무기력함에 노출된 지식인 주체의 문제에 나름의 방식으로 대처하는 상징행위의 산물이다. 그것은 주체적인 선택과 결단을 유보하면서도 오히려 거꾸로 그 지연과 유보의 형식 자체에서 글쓰기의 의미와 가치를 발견하며, 그것을 통해 사회적인 요구나 당위와 대립하는 개인주의적 진실의 옹호를 미학화한다. 끊임없이 의심하고 점검하며 회의하는 것은 그런 개인의 자기활동을 효과적으로 유지하고 실현하는 방법이다. 그리고 그것의 뒷면에는 사회적집단적 문제에 대한 책임의 요구를 하나같이 개인을 억압하는 부정적인 것으로 환원해버리는 고립된 개인의 특권화가 존재한다. 그런 측면에서 이청준의 격자소설은 견고한 자기중심적 주체의 형식이다. 이청준 격자소설의 이면에 숨어 있는 문학적 자유주의의 정치적 핵심은 바로 이 개인 주체의 배타적인 옹호와 자기주장이다.
Abstract
The feature of Lee Cheong-Jun's Frame-Novel is a product of his own specific cognition and attitude about modernity of Korea in the 1960,s. It can summarize as a subject-form of obsessional neurosis comprehending content, form, characters, and theme of his novels. It is a product of symbolic act with which coping the problem of an intellectual subject who caught in the disorder and enervation result from experience of modernity in korean modern society. It leaves it's subjective option and decision, but affirm the meaning and value of writing in such an attitude. And it aestheticize the protection of individualist true which conflict with social demand and what should be. The unceasing doubt and reflection is a method for successful preservation and realization of that individualist self-activity. And in it, he privileges isolate individual who reduce the demand of responsibilities on social and collective problems to the negative. On this side, Lee Cheong-Jun's Frame-Novel is a form of solid self-centered subject. The core of literary liberalism in Lee Cheong-Jun's Frame-Novel is exclusive protection and self-insistence of the very individualist subject.
