Abstract
This study aims to explore how pre-service secondary music teachers experience peer tutoring activities in a graduate school of education and how they construct the meaning of these interactions throughout the process. Four pre-service secondary music teachers who were actively engaged in a study group at a graduate school in Seoul were selected as participants. Data were collected through participant observations, semi-structured interviews, and SNS conversation records, and were analyzed using qualitative methods. The findings are as follows. First, the participants perceived graduate coursework and collaborative activities as an initial stage of learning toward becoming a teacher, expanding their understanding and attitudes toward the teaching profession through interactions among learners, peers, and instructors. Second, peer tutoring activities served as meaningful opportunities for participants to objectify their lessons and reflect on their learning processes. Observing peers’ lessons and exchanging feedback broadened their perspectives on teaching and fostered metacognitive awareness. Third, participants viewed peer relationships as sources of emotional support and collaboration, maintaining their learning motivation and forming a foundation for professional growth through mutual feedback and communication. Overall, the findings suggest that peer tutoring extends beyond a task-oriented practicum; it functions as a process through which pre-service teachers reinterpret their experiences and gradually construct their identities as future music educators.
